"Alright, Ora, I think we're all finished eating."

"Thank you, Kiranos.  As I was saying, during the foxes vs. Canga war, we were one of the clans who gave the foxes a place to hide between their battles.  However, the Canga didn't quite fall for it.  They knew that some of the wolf clans were helping them; but the problem was that they didn't know whose packs and which clans.  It was mostly Duma and Kauai clans that had permission from the Taran clans of their part of the forest.

"It wasn't long before we found out that the Canga had plans of their own in order to find which clans were helping the foxes.  There were some good Canga too.  That's how we found out about what they were going to do.  The two Canga that warned us against them were named Watergleam and Anole."

"Canga," said Inukaza.  Aren't those what the hairless no-tails call um...what was it?  Drag...drag..."

"Perhaps, dragons is the word you're looking for," said Kiranos.

"Yeah, that's it! Dr...drag...dragons.  Wow, I spoke a no tail's word!"

"How did you know this, Kiranos," asked Karisian.

“I spent time with those pitiful hairless no-tails at one point in my life,” he growled.

“Really?”

“Yes,” he said irritably.

“Maybe you can tell us your story sometime,” said Punda.

“Maybe…”

“Please, continue Ora.”

“Yes, sir,” he replied. “If it weren’t for Anole and Watergleam, our entire pack would either be living with the Canga or dead.”

“Viva and Kirin whined and lowered their ears at this bit of news.”  Inukaza whimpered and asked, “Is that the punishment they would give?”

“Yes, it is.”

“That’s kind of scary,” said Kirin, “living with the Canga I mean.”

“Well, better that than being dead,” whined Viva.

“That’s true,” replied Kirin.

“Sorry, Ora.  Please keep going.”

“It’s alright.  I understand that it is a bit scary for you.  Anyway, Watergleam and Anole told us that the Canga would be watching the wolves to find the clans that were helping the foxes.”

“But aren’t the Canga almost as big as trees with huge wings and claws that they can’t hide,” asked Inukaza.

“Yes, but the Canga are also like chameleons.  They can change in order to blend in with their surroundings.  So you see...that’s how they were able to watch us; but we cam up with a plan of our own to disguise the foxes.

“Some of the foxes even did a little acting to trick the Canga so as not to get us into trouble.  They would walk through the forest pretending to make new plans and battle strategies; but the real plans were hatched back at the den.
Watergleam and Anole personally requested watching out clan.  They pretended that they had something against us; but some of the other Canga didn’t quite trust them so they decided to send two other Canga with them.  As a result, we not only disguised the foxes as wolves but we disguised them as the forest as well.”

“Wow!  How did you manage to do that,” asked Kirin.

“I have a feeling Kiranos might know.”

The wolves now looked toward Kiranos for an answer.

“Well,” he said, “they had some of the foxes roll in mud.  When they did that, they would be able to blend in with the rocks near the waterfalls.”

“Interesting,” said Viva.

“Hold on, there’s more.”

“You’ve done well so far,” said Ora.

“Thank you.”

“You’re quite welcome.”

“Well, the foxes are small animals; but they are also very sly and clever.  The wolves and the foxes dug up the roots to some of the smaller bushes.  Since, the foxes were small enough to crawl under them, two or three foxes were able to crawl under them and move the bushes by the picking up the largest roots that they were able to hold and dragging them as they walked.  It’s quite surprising that most of the Canga did not notice the moving bushes.  Those who did thought their eyes were playing tricks on them.”

“Bravo.  I take it you were one of the Dalahr who watched from the sidelines?”

“I had a few fox friends of my own.”

“Ah, a Denseng.”

“What’s that,” asked Inukaza.

“A Denseng is one of the few Dalahr who traveled into the Canga’s territory to spy for the foxes.”

“Yes, some of them were very cunning in their ways,” added Ora.

Dalahr were wolves that considered themselves lone wolves.  They were really part of the Ama clans, which were the lowest ranked wolf clans of the forest.  Members of the Ama clans did not get along too well and preferred to be alone.  They even hunted alone.  But get into a fight with a member of one of their packs and that entire pack would be after you by twilight.  If anything, at least the members of the Ama clans still cared for one another.

“You also said something about the foxes disguising themselves as wolves.” Pointed out Kirin.  “How did you manage to do that?”

“I’m not quite sure,” replied Kiranos.  “If I do say so myself, they might’ve appeared to be wolves’ pups because they’re so small; but just because they’re small, doesn’t always mean they’re not strong.”

“Thank you, Kiranos,” said Ora.  We did indeed disguise them as pups.  Like us wolves, their underbellies are white.  As you are likely to know, there is a certain type of tree in our forest that has white powder on its trunk.  Unlike us, only the tips of the foxes’ tails are white.  The entire undersides of our tails are white.  We simply had them rub their tails against the trunks of the powdered trees and let them roll in dirt afterwards.”

“That way they appeared to be the pups of a red wolf,” finished Kiranos.

“Funny how the Canga didn’t notice the increase in the red wolf population.”
